Hi all,

I have a relatively late model (58 plate) Alhambra with 4x electric windows and elec mirrors.

Car was suffering from intermittent window opening so after some research I found this (and other) postings really useful

http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/10371-galaxy-door-boot-wiring-inspection-repair/

So on the drivers side front door I opened up and found a complete;y broken red/yellow cable and partially broke brown cable both of these were quite hefty 2.5mm jobs

Without removing the loom I have spliced in some soldered repairs but have the following issues

1) On trying to connect the loom up hardly anything works :-( no mirrors or windows etc. Are there often lots of internal breakages of the thinner cables too and is there a good diagram of the wiring and colours so I can try and fault trace?

2) When reconnecting the loom cannot understand how the male/female parts of the plug go together when there also has to be twisting of the outer castellated lock ring...do you tighten up the lock ring and then 'push' the plug home? I don't want to make it any worse and I had to give up for the night (darkness).

Thanks for any help

welcome to the forum,

if i remember there is a bit of a knack in getting it back together again.re read the info in the faqs.

i reckon you will have to inspect all the doors for broken wires,if as you say youve mended the drivers side then look elsewhere.

Thanks for the reply. I am sure many of us have shared that frustrated feeling of "what have I done" when the car is in pieces on the drive and not even working as well as before you started. And I had to let it out a bit...

I have read the FAQ many times but there really is chaff all room on the front doors to see/work on this stuff. I still cannot see how you can twist the connector to tighten it if the male/female parts of the connector are joined

I am wondering about taking off the door panel so I can get better access?

I just changed all wires on my Gal-99 left rear door that had 3 wires working and the rest broken.

Now everything electrical in the door works again :)

Maybe the problem indicated in this post that you can not rotate the male connector on reassembl could be that you have inserted the locking ring so that the locking tabs enter the exectly fitting square holes on the locking ring. I did that at first and gor the same problem, but after going back to the FAQ posts I saw that the locking tabs should be the one that lock the whole lock ring and let it rotate.

A tip if you as me replace many wires is to dismount the door side and the speaker to get mote room to work.

A final tip if you cut all the wires or if they are already broken is that there are two Green/Blue wires to the central locking system and they can NOT be swapped since it will screw up the central locking. I had to solder them back and test the function and then change them cause you never guess right at the first time (as per Murhy's law).
